Assistant Controller

Department: Finance
Location: London

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller assists with the financial reporting and statutory compliance for three corporations separately and on a consolidated basis. The Assistant Controller supervises and provides support to three to five Finance staff members and ensures accurate and timely month and year end close. 



- Ensuring accurate and timely month end and year end close, including
- Completing percentage of completion calculations for the consulting practice
- Identifying, calculating and recording inter-company and inter-divisional charges
- Supervising the bank reconciliation and other general ledger reconciliations
- Completing sales allocation to ensure revenue is allocated to the proper sales segments
- Calculating and recording unearned and recognized revenues
- Participating in the development of departmental budgets, managing implementation of the budgets and developing monthly forecasts
- Preparing and reviewing the month end files and divisional performance with the leadership teams, including variance explanations and analysis


- Managing corporate income tax compliance for Canada and US federally, along with a number of states
- Researching, implementing and managing sales taxes for various jurisdictions
- Reconciling corporate income and sales tax accounts for all jurisdictions


-Reviewing bi-weekly payroll for accuracy, completeness and potential implications
-Supervising, training, coaching and mentoring three to five Finance staff members
-Other projects as they arise


- Must be CPA, CA designated with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar analytical role
- Public accounting experience with either a small firm or within the owner managed business team of a big 4 firm  
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Office Products (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with SAGE ACCPAC an asset
- Strong technical accounting skills with solid knowledge in accounting principles, financial reports and taxation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross functions teams
- Ability to generate new and innovative approaches to problems
- Ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, and problem solve
- Excellent analytical ability
- Very detail oriented and results-driven
